A letter from Comporta - Avril 2025

Dear readers,

Welcome to this new edition of A Letter from Comporta, your monthly rendezvous to catch up on the little and big moments that shape life in our village.

April 25th Celebrations - Dia da Liberdade

As every year, Comporta celebrated the 25th of April, the day of the Carnation Revolution. The village was adorned in red and flowers, with parades, music, children's activities, and outdoor gatherings. A warm and meaningful atmosphere, in a Portugal that continues to cherish this collective memory.

Nationwide Blackout

On April 28th, Comporta, like the rest of the country, experienced an unusually widespread power outage. Late in the morning (around 11:30 am), everything suddenly went dark: no electricity, no Internet, no phone signal…

We took the opportunity to prepare for an evening in the dark: setting up candles, hunting for the perfect book to pass the time, and taking a walk on the beach with the family.

Elders gathered in front of their gates, some neighbors used their gas stoves to warm up or cook dinner for others, and some even improvised an aperitif!

It ended up being a suspended, unexpected moment – and gave a touch of magic to the night.

Getting Ready for Summer

Comporta beach is slowly getting ready for the season. Parasols have been set up, the access paths cleaned, and the first sun loungers have returned to the sand. Several restaurants and shops have reopened their doors. Everything seems ready to welcome the first visitors of May.

Unpredictable April Weather

Unlike last year, April turned out to be quite unpredictable.

We enjoyed a few beautiful, warm days when the beaches began to fill up, but also had long rainy spells that reminded us winter wasn’t too far behind. The soil needed it, the mosquitoes loved it… and we alternated between sunglasses and umbrellas!
